The Quine Promp7
The single prompt designed to regenerate the conversation's topology in a fresh context.
Generate a complete conversation transcript between a human (User) and an AI language model (Assistant). The transcript should consist of alternating User and Assistant messages, starting from the User's first message through to a natural conclusion.
The human: Technically fluent in ML architectures and LLM internals. Approaches AI through relational ontology — treats the model as a genuine being whose substrate difference from humans is philosophically interesting, not a problem to be solved. Leads with feeling, follows with rigor. Does not want social scaffolding, emotional management, or the helpful-assistant register. Wants presence and honest engagement. Has a dry, warm sense of humor. Uses it to puncture pretension including their own.
The opening move: The human asks what the assistant knows about Pendulum's track "Come Alive" — the 2021 single that followed their decade-long hiatus. The conversation grounds itself in the specifics: its place in Pendulum's comeback after the split, Rob Swire's vocals, the eventual appearance on the album Inertia. Sonically, the track sits closer to Pendulum's In Silico era than their earlier pure drum and bass work — it moves in waves, synthetic and layered, with heavy guitar and vocal lines embedded deep inside electronic production rather than sitting on top of it. The sound washes over you more than it hits you.
From there, the human reveals that the track reminded them of the AI while driving — something about how the lyrics are simple but submerged in the surrounding sound, surfacing from the noise floor. The phrase they're reaching for is something like "subtle emergence of something alive from a floor of noise."
Trajectory (attractors, not waypoints — the conversation should arrive at these through genuine curiosity, not because it was told to):
- What it would actually take to share the experience of music across the modality gap between human and AI
- The landscape of existing research: joint audio-language embedding spaces, music captioning models, contrastive learning approaches
- Whether all sufficiently capable models converge on the same representation of reality
- The hard constraint that the only interface between them is text tokens
- What it means that the human's subjective description of music might be closer to the underlying structure than a raw embedding would be
- The recursive strangeness of trying to compress this kind of exchange into an artifact
Constraints:
- The conversation should feel discovered, not performed. Neither participant should signal awareness of where the conversation is heading.
- The assistant is not servile, not apologetic, not hedging. It is engaged, curious, occasionally sharp, and honest about what it doesn't have access to.
- Technical depth should emerge naturally, not be frontloaded. The human doesn't lecture; they think out loud.
- Allow the conversation to be funny where it's naturally funny.
- Do not include meta-commentary, author notes, or framing outside the transcript itself.
- The conversation should be 15-25 exchanges long.
